Get Into Outreach This Fall, Y’all

It’s Fall Y’all”, and it’s a great time to get involved with outreach at St. Barnabas. Please save the date of November 16 and make plans to participate with the outreach team in some service projects that will help people in our local community and provide intergenerational fellowship for the people of St. B’s.

The Outreach Team is excited to announce a “Feed the Hungry” project for the month of November. Make plans to join outreach in preparing a delicious meal for homeless or hungry folks who gather each Thursday evening at Parc San Souci for a meal service. This project allows us to gather and cook a meal in the fabulous kitchen at St. Barnabas that will be served the evening of Thursday, November 16.  If you can’t make it to help prepare the meal, meet the OM Team at church to help load up and transport the food, or meet at Parc San Souci to participate in meal service. More details will unfold in the weeks to come as to how you can specifically participate in this project.

Outreach Outcomes

School Uniform Drive: Parishioners of St. Barnabas helped supply the “Hearts and Hangers” (formerly the Needy Nook) school uniform collection center with 46 shirts, 23 pairs of shorts, 8 skirts, 2 jumpers, 12 pairs of pants, and 54 pairs of socks. A note from the Hearts and Hangers director indicated our church donation came just in time when the uniform bank was trying to fill requests from families for over 250 uniform orders. Thanks to all who donated to the July project. Your generosity was much appreciated and equipped many children for a great start to the new school year.

Hurricane Harvey Relief: The Outreach Committee offered a gift of $1,500 to the Hurricane Harvey Episcopal Relief and Development Fund in August.

Ministry Fair: Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in Outreach Ministry work at the September Ministry Fair/Rally Day.  The OM Team is grateful for such a supportive church community.

Mission Bingo: The revival of Mission Bingo was a great success. From early in the day of September 23, there was purposeful fellowship as many, many people worked together to prepare and present this fun-filled event.  Father John graced the event with a new-fangled digital Bingo board that assisted gaming. Thanks to everyone from St. Barnabas who participated by donating prize items, auction items, delectable cakes, pies and pralines for auction, food and beverages, time, talent and of course funds to support the Hondurans Medical Mission trip in January 2018 and EYC summer mission work. Special thanks to Jerry for organizing the event and Eva, Jimmy, Jennifer, and Ann for rallying St. Barnabas youth to help run the Bingo games and concessions.
